The vibration course was held for the crew at Stena Drilling The course combined theory and interactive tasks with Pruftechnik instruments. After completing the course, the participants had a good understanding of why we monitor the condition of rotating machinery (and other critical components), the importance of improved predictability and how vibrations can be properly measured and analysed to provide an early warning for a wide range of common errors.
Karsten Moholt converted the machines to an insulated bearing arrangement with a separate shaft grounding. This solution provided stronger insulation than coated bearings, and allows the use of standard bearings.

Karsten Moholt received a 15 kW three-phase motor for overhaul. The motor was badly affected by water ingress and rust. The bearings and fan covers on the motor were changed and it was offshore-painted. The motor was tested and vibration control carried out before it was returned to the customer.
